September
This month got an unfortunate message from Mildred’s mum to inform us that she had got a flesh-eating bacteria infection in her foot. Mildred is one of our current beneficiaries. She has been to the hospital and they have quoted 15000 Kenyan Shillings as she will need an injection every six hours to help her heal. We decided to launch a campaign to help our lovely beneficiary get better from this infection.
October
We have been in very close contact with Mildred and her family and received many updates to explain how Mildred is doing. We received great information to let us know that her leg is responding well to the injections and she is being very brave after many visits to the doctors to receive the injections.
Unfortunately, later this month, we were informed that Mildred has taken a turn for the worst and the flesh-eating bacteria is spreading over her foot and up her leg. The hospital has informed her guardian they may need to amputate her leg after they found out it may be cancer.
We sent Mildred to have a final assessment at a Skin Specialist to determine if the treatment is possible or if amputation is needed. Luckily the specialist confirmed it was not cancer so things are starting to look brighter for Mildred and her family.
November/December
The Specialist advised a skin graft would be the best option after clearing up the nasty infection to correct the missing skin all over her foot.
Mildred has had a successful skin graft and is recovering in hospital with her foot and leg in bandages. We have been keeping in touch with her regularly and she is doing really well.
A huge thank you to everyone who was so concerned and who has donated to help this poorly little girl. Mildred and her family are beyond thankful for all the treatment we have been able to provide with your help 😊
We love to see our beneficiaries succeed in their studies however it is more important they are healthy to ensure they can flourish in school.
Have a safe recovery Mildred, from all your friends at THEY are Africa.
